RICKY ALLMAN

Ricky was born and raised in Provo, Utah in 1978. Apocalyptic teachings in Sunday school along with tornado drills at school instilled in him a deep fear and fascination with the end of the world from a very young age...

Ricky was also influenced by his time living in Seattle, Germany, England, Taiwan, New England, and now Kansas City, Missouri. Ricky's work has been informed by the natural world (namely the Rocky Mountains in Utah), and after moving from Utah to Boston- architectural structures. Ricky's work also reveals a tumultuous relationship with the Mormon Church. Being a devout believer until his mid 20's when he began to become disaffected with the faith and over the next five years finally abandoning it altogether...

Although he no longer believes in the apocalypse, his childhood fascination has made him concerned with difficult environmental and political issues that have enormous consequences. A thread of hope and optimism run through Ricky's work underlying an ultimately optimistic worldview rooted in secular humanism. Ricky lives in Kansas City MO, where he teaches painting and drawing at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He received his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.
