DIAMONDS TO DUST

NEW KASPER EISTRUP SOLO EXHIBITION CELEBRATES BOTH LIFE AND DEATH.

Kasper Eistrup shows new work and publishes new book after completing giant oil paintings for Copenhagen’s newly constructed Axel Towers.

All flowers wither and every candle eventually burn out, but within the most downward of spirals, you often find the purest moments of life, electricity and presence.
With “Diamonds to Dust”, Kasper Eistrup point his focus towards the duality of decay and examines the residue a life leaves behind.

“I have always tried to tell stories through my work by marrying opposites – to create a chain reaction from the collective energy of many smaller pieces. I use the personalities and objects that shaped my youth…shaped me and my worldview. Diamonds to Dust is, in many ways, the culmination of that narrative”.

Kasper Eistrup’s fascination of pop culture and iconography is well documented through out his work as an artist, and in his coming solo exhibition, the cast of characters partly consists of people who were torn apart by their own extraordinary charisma and intensity, such as female Hollywood stars Jayne Mansfield and Barbara Peyton. Both left, despite very short-lived careers, a lasting mark on cultural history with their intoxicating sexual energy, a sudden rise and a brutal and ugly demise.

To Eistrup, worshipping a cracked icon is a means of dealing with the taboo of death – a subject of great importance to him – the awareness of finality that can cripple a life or liberate it from its limitations and moderations.

“The people who are burnt into my conscience are often the ones whose flame shone the brightest, the ones who experienced both great peaks and abrupt endings. There is a potential for an unfiltered love for life, when you acknowledge the certainty of death…”

Among his subjects we also find the late David Bowie, with whom Eistrup had a personal and artistic relation that translated into both correspondence and collaboration.

“Diamonds to Dust” is an examination of opposites – the amplification of living that goes hand in hand with death, the steep fall that follows the mountain peak, but also a fearful recognition of the power of (bad) luck and the domino effects of circumstance.
Kasper Eistrup deals with these topics with a series of pieces characterized by almost catalogue-like placements, made up of people and objects in planned collisions. The exhibition consists of drawings an oil paintings as well as the title piece – an installation containing artefacts, among them Eistrup’s baby teeth and a lifelike casting of his daughter’s arm.

“Diamonds to Dust” is showing at Galleri Benoni from November 3rd – December 2nd.

A book release by the artist titled “Fragmentarium” will coincide with the exhibition.

ABOUT

Galleri Benoni is a gallery with an ambitious yet relaxed atmosphere.

We aim to present contemporary artists working within a wide range of mediums.

We seek out art that excels in 4 parameters: Artistic skill, process, theme based approach and C.V. We will exhibit both Danish and international artists. We love many art genres, and will not confine the gallery space to one art form.

Instead we will welcome everything from underground Street Art, to a more pleasing aesthetic, and even show varying types of minimalism. We aim to uphold meaning, and a constant red thread, despite our diverse choice of Shows/exhibitions.

We will highlight work that equally emphazize skill & process. The works you can expect to see in our gallery aims to amuse, and engange viewers on a sentient emotional and inspirational level.

We want to include, rather than exclude. We welcome you to visit Galleri Benoni.
